Wiring a switch for a light that also powers an outlet.

Notice that these outlets have the tab removed from the hot side or brass side of the outlet which allows the top half of the plug to be controlled only from the switch. The power source of a switch may be used for an outlet as long as you plan your wiring accordingly so you can make all these connections. In this diagram two 3 way switches control a wall receptacle outlet that may be used to control a lamp from two entrances to a room. Buy a single pole switch if one switch controls the lights or a three way if you have two switches controlling the same lights. How to wire a switch and outlet combo.
